Okowa lauds Seplat over good community relations, commissions completed projects in Ugborhen

Ifeanyi-Okowa1Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has lauded Seplat Petroleum Development Company for living up to it corporate social responsibility in its host communities.

Okowa while speaking at the commissioning of eight completed projects of the company in Ugborhen community, Sapele local government area of the state on Wednesday, march 22, also called on other corporate bodies to emulate Seplat’s gesture.

Governor Okowa who noted that the developments made by Seplat in their host communities is bound to enhance the confidence of the indigenes however encouraged peace and cooperation in the Niger delta region.

“If all companies partner with the host community like this, development will certainly open up the whole place and the act of governance will be something we look forward to.”

He however urged the company to engage youths in their areas of operations as unemployment leads to youth restiveness.

Speaking earlier, the Chief Executive Officer of Seplat Petroleum, Mr. Austin Avuru explained that the company is commitment to bring all round development of the host communities based on the global MOU of Seplat and its host communities adding that the projects were executed by indigenous contractors in the community thereby creating a secondary economy for the host communities.

Governor Okowa accompanied by his deputy, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro commissioned the following completed projects in Ugborhen Community: the 7.0km Elume Ugborhen-Ugbukurusu Road; the 3.76km Ugborhen-Ikeresan Road; 1.09km Okuovo-1 Community Road; the Ugborhen Ultra Modern Town Hall and Civic Centre; Ugborhen Housing Scheme, Ugborhen Solar Powered Water System; concrete drainage system/road protection and two blocks of four classrooms and science laboratory at Adaka Grammar School, Ugborhen
