Delta Queens Football Club in Asaba started on a positive note in the Nigerian Women Football League Super 6 in their quest to finish as Champions of the 2022/2023 edition with a 3-1 defeat of Confluence Queens in Match Day 1 of the on going Competition at the Stephen Keshi Township Stadium.

Delta Queens went all out from the blast of the whistle to open the flow of goals in the 19th minute after stylish midfield maestro Ekpeyong Effiom wearing number 27 jersey ran into a pass from Mercy Omokwo and raised past her attacker before slotting the ball beyond Confluence Queens goalkeeper Linda Jiwuaku.

The Kogi State side, Confluence Queens came looking for an equaliser which finally came in the 31st minute when Martha Peter lobbed the ball pass Anderlene Mgbeche in goal for Delta Queens to send shock waves down the spines of home fans.

It took the Pearls about two minutes to restore their lead as Vera Samuel smashed into the goal from a rebound to end the first half on a 2-1 goal margin in favour of Delta Queens.

Both sides resumed into a more dogged second half as the Confluence Queens continued to mount pressure with a view to get an equaliser even as Delta Queens failed to convert some chances begging for opportunities to score.

Just when it looked like there will be no more goals in the second half, Ekpeyong Effiom sporting number 27 jersey, scored a brace to seal the game 3-1.

With the Victory, Delta Queens leads on top of Group B and will next take on Edo Queens in Match Day 3 on Friday, June 9, 2023 at the Stephen Keshi Township Stadium, Asaba.
