NUJ not at war with govt, urges public to disregard such rumor
… Says it will continue to support Okowa’s administration

The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Delta State Council, has said that it was never at war with the state government or anybody.
The union however, said it will will continue to play its constitutional role of holding government accountable.
This was contained in a communique issued on Thursday at the end of a State Executive Council (SEC) of the NUJ, Delta State Council and signed by Comrade Micheal Ikeogwu and Comrade Patrick Ochei, Chairman and Secretary respectively.
The Union at its Emergency SEC meeting held at the Temporary Press Centre, deliberated on immediate issues affecting the Council and its relationship with Government and the general public.
The union passed a vote of implicit confidence on the State Chairman, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu and the State Working Committee for a focused leadership and tangible achievements so far.
According to the Communique “SEC in session denounced any form of perception of war with government, stating that it is not at war with government or anybody. He therefore, urged the public to disregard such rumour.”
The Union also posited that while it “would continue to play its constitutional role of holding government accountable, it would equally continue to support the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa towards an all inclusive development and Stronger Delta.
The union stated that it would “remain resolute in playing its statutory role of mounting surveillance on the society, while at the same time, resist any attempt by anybody or group to divide the Union.”
