NUJ Hails Oboreh’s Appointment As VC, DESUTEC
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council congratulates Prof. Jacob Oboreh on his appointment as Vice Chancellor, Delta State University of Science and Technology.
In a statement by Comrade Michael Ikeogwu, and Comrade Patrick Ochei, Chairman and Secretary of the NUJ Delta State Council respectively, the Union stated that it was not surprised that an academician of Oboreh’s status was appointed to head the newly created University. It only shows that the Government of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa knows how to reward hardwork and due diligence.
The statement reads in parts, “We make bold to state that Professor Oboreh deserves the appointment, being eminently qualified and having distinguished himself in his previous assignment as the Rector of the then Delta State Polytechnic Ozoro.
“Based on his intimidating achievements, NUJ then presented him with a Distinguished Excellence Award as a way of recognizing, encouraging and motivating him to keep the good work going.
“From the appointments made by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the newly established State Universities, Prof. Oboreh is singled out as a man that needs no screening for the job, because his previous record still speaks volume.
“Therefore, we commend the Governor for this square peg in a square hole appointment.
“The only advice we have to give to Prof. Oboreh in our capacity as watchdog of the society, is that he should surpass his past record and further bring good governance and discipline within the academic citadel.”
