NAS donates mono pump to Delta community

The National Association of Seadogs, NAS, during the weekend, donated a mono pump to the people of Ogbe Utuama quarters in Umusedeli community of Kwale, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta state in commemoration of it’s 70th anniversary.

Hon. Misan Ukubeyinje, Area Mate, Area 7, NAS, during the inauguration of the water project, said the gesture was part of their weekend of Service to Humanity programme to celebrate their 70th anniversary, noting that though they have been doing service to humanity for the past 70 years, this year’s celebration was special as over 60 decks all over the world are participating in the celebration simultaneously.

“This water project will service this local community that has suffered the devastation of the recent flood. They have suffered greatly because of this flood and this is our own small way in helping them by providing water for them. We have picked one project here today and as time goes on we are going to pick more project on other communities,” Ukubeyinje, the former Delta Commissioner said.

Earlier in his speech, Hon. Boniface Nzesi Ussai, President, NAS, Dolphin Deck, Abraka branch, said they decided to pickp the community because of the devastated effect the recent flood had on the community, adding that “All their water bore holes were down and since the flood have receded we decided to put up this mono pump here for them to be using pending when they would have restored their boreholes.”

On his part, Hon. Obayagbon Oshevire, Public Relations Officer, Projects, Dolphin Deck branch, NAS, said the project cost them about 380 thousand naira, excluding logistic, adding that the contractor has been well mobilized to come back and check the status of the project and check for maintenance in three months time.

One of the community chiefs, Chief Chief Ema Oluku, who spoke on behalf of the community, said NAS is a unique association, adding that apart from politicians, he has never seen any private association come together to give back to the society like what NAS is doing.

Some of the community people who spoke to journalists during the occasion, say they are very happy that NAS has brought the project to their community because they have been suffering lack of water in the community for so many years.
