Itsekiri Youths Rejects INEC Ward Delineanation In The 3 Warri LGA of Delta State

By: Emma Arubi, Warri
Hundreds of Itsekiri women and youths Tuesday protested against INEC proposed wards in the 3-Warri LGAs of Delta State, saying it is purely design to render them politically irrelevant not only in Nigeria but particularly in Delta State.
The harmless protesters who were forcefully dispersed by police operatives and soldier men using tear gas and firing gunshots carried posters bearing different inscription like “we reject INEC Ward Delineanation; INEC should be investigated; INEC proposal Rest in Peace and so on.
Addressing the protester at the Olu Palace field, Chiefs Omolubi Newuwumi and Goddey Erewa said the propose ward delineanation does not reflect the true position of things noting that, while the Urhobos and Ijaws have their wards increased that of the Itsekiri were reduced and where the Ijaws had no wards before now, INEC created new wards for them. They noted that the proposed ward delineanation is a recipe intended to cause serious crisis in oil-rich Warri Kingdom and they are prepared to shed their last blood to effect it’s correction.
A woman leader, Mrs. Tsaye Edeyibo Mene said, INEC Ward proposal are unacceptable as Itsekiris will now only have Councilors in their original 3-Warri LGAs, their own home.
According to her, the Ijaws and Urhobos combined to influence this dubious manipulation but they will meet the greatest showdown in their futile dream of annexing Itsekiri territory for their political benefits.
Chief Omolubi assured the protesters that the Federal and State Government will certainly look into this injustice for peace to reign and development to prosper as everything is being done to reverse the trend.
A protesters called on the authorities to institute a proper investigation to determine how INEC arrived at their proposal and deal decisively with the field workers for doing a very bad job after allegedly collecting so much bribe that Itsekiri could not offer.
Others who spoke at protest ground said “if this will lead to the end Delta State, let it be as they are ready for anything to happen”, it’s not acceptable by any standard, they vowed.
President Emeritus of Itsekiri apex youth organization, INYC called on the Delta state government to prevail on the police and soldiers to release their ceased property as the Itsekiri protesters did not destroy any property during the protest.
