Group Greets Ahmed Lawan, Ovie Omo-Agege As Senate President, Deputy Senate President

The Niger Delta Peace and Development Forum (NDPDF) has felicitated with the newly sworn in Senate President Ahmed Lawan and Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege on their well deserved victories at Red Chamber of the National Assembly, calling on the new leadership to make laws that will improve the living standards of the Niger Delta people in particular and Nigeria in general.

The forum also congratulated the newly sworn in Speakers of the Niger Delta Region State Houses of Assembly.

In a congratulatory message signed in Warri today by its National President, Sir High Chief Assay Anthony Omamuzo, the forum described today’s victory as a positive development and a demonstration of the collective wishes of the Nigerian people.

The statement read thus, “I, Sir High Chief Assay Anthony Omamuzo extend our congratulation on the impressive victory in the Red Chamber election to the leadership position of National Assembly. I am delighted that the leadership will continue to work for the good of the people and Niger Delta Region in particular as you perform the duties of the Senate President.”

“I sincerely congratulate you and send the forum’s best wishes for your success and wisdom in discharging the important and responsible duties of your position. We are confident that the trust placed in you by the citizens of Nigeria will inspire you to continue in promoting the unity of our country, leading it on the path of prosperity, further well-being and security for our people,” the statement said.

The group called on the new leadership of the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly to make laws that will improve the living standards of Nigerians in general and Niger Delta people in particular.

The statement further read, “Now the task of taking Nigeria to greater heights of development and prosperity has begun. We wish the Senate President, Deputy Senate President, State Houses of Assembly Speakers and the leadership a successful and impactful tenure.

The Clerk of the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani-Omolori who presided over the exercise announced that a total of 107 Senators-elect took part in the election.

Former Senate Leader, Mr Lawan is the favoured candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). His nomination was moved in a motion by Senator Yahaya Abdullahi and seconded by Adeola Olamilaken of Lagos West.

Senator Ahmed Lawan was elected as new Senate President after a 79 to 28 landslide victory over Senator Ali Ndume, lawmaker representing Borno South Senatorial District.
