Gov Dickson Designates Ox-Bow Lake Area In Yenagoa As Entertainment, Leisure Zone

Governor Seriake Dickson has inspected some on-going projects at the Ox-bow lake area in Yenagoa, including the proposed Tourism Centre as well as assess the level of work done on the reclamation project.

While fielding questions from journalists, Governor Dickson explained that, he decided to take an on the spot assessment of work on the facilities springing up in the area.

The Governor expressed satisfaction with the level of work on the projects like the Pavilion, Boat Club and a standing proposal with Shoprite for the construction of a Shopping Mall linking the Yenagoa
Galleria and the Teens Park alongside the Tower Hotel, noting that, the zone would be designated as the entertainment and leisure zone.

According to him the projects, when completed, will provide job opportunities as well as change the landscape of the area in line with the government’s vision of unveiling the investment opportunities and
potentials of the state.

His words: “The place is taking on a different look, the whole area is captivating and Bayelsa is Nigeria’s best kept secret. We have started the process of unveiling that secret to the rest of the country and
the rest of the world, what Bayelsa has to offer.  We shall invite the world after completion for them to come and enjoy these facilities and let our investors and other development partners have confidence in
what we are doing”

Governor Dickson, who also inspected the three Star Hotel started by President Goodluck Jonathan when he was Governor of the state, said work is in progress on the inherited project, as the government
intends to make Bayelsa, number one in the tourism industry and expressed optimism, that in the next seven months it would be completed.

Earlier conducting the Governor round the project site, Mr. Anyiam Osigwe, the contractor handling the facility, said the project has reached an advanced stage and will be delivered in the next seven months.

Commissioner of Finance, Mr. Duate Iyabi, Special Adviser on Investment, Mr. Cyril Akika, Paramount ruler of Opume, King Amalate Turner and other top government functionaries accompanied Governor
Dickson on the inspection visit.
