The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed on Wednesday charged community leaders, religious leaders and members of the public to collaborate with the police to flush out criminals from the state.

Muhammed who made this call when he paid a working visit to the Warri Area Command, today said cultism and kidnappings is a major challenge in Warri and other parts of the State.

CP Muhammed gave an example of a criminal who was arrested in the state but some community leaders were pleading for his release.

“A suspect was arrested for kidnapping, murder and armed robbery and for collecting ransom. A community leaders came and said, Oga, we cannot do anything without the consent of the people of the area.”

CP Muhammed noted that there are internal collaborators with criminals around the various Communities and that’s why cultism and kidnappings thrive in the society.

He urged the traditional rulers, youth leaders and caregivers to collaborate with the Police in the fight against cultism and kidnappings.

As a way of respecting human rights of the citizens which is in line with the constitution, CP Muhammed who was flanked by DCP Sunday Faleye, CSP Graham Imadeh, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya and others said he will ensure that the rights of the people were not abused.

He warned that no Policeman will kill anybody and blame it on “accidental discharge”. You must know how to handle your fire arms.

He also warned those who carry fake news on social media that the police will get them and deal with accordingly.

He assured the general public of their safety and advised them to go about their normal businesses without fear.

The CP also paid an unscheduled visit to the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Warri Correspondent Chapel.

He assured journalists in the state that the Delta State command will collaborate with them in their effort to fight crime in the state.
