Nigerian Professionals for Good Citizenship Advocates Attitudinal Change In Governance

A non-governmental organization, Nigerian Professionals for God Citizenship, has pledged its commitment to ensure that people of noble character participate in government to assist in the care and management of government resources.

The President of the organization, Miss Bridget Dunkwu, stated that when she led the executive and members on a courtesy call on the General Manager, Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Asaba, Lady Martina Onoh.

The president said the organization believes that Nigerians can no longer sit back and watch people of questionable character take over the governance and sit on the collective destiny of the nation.

 “We are of the opinion that for us to get it right now and in the future, we must stand today to retrace our steps and begin to educate the youths on a new, noble and responsible ways of life.

“Our campaign is to re-orientate the Nigerian citizens for attitudinal change that would ensure a positive direction”, the president stated.

According to her, people talk of corruption and good governance but noted that the bottom line is good citizenship.

“We cannot fight for corruption and guarantee a responsible government at all the levels of governance in the midst of bad citizens.

“It is only good citizen that can fight the war against corruption and provide good leadership” she added.

Miss Dunkwu also harped on the need to fight tribalism as well as ethnicity and assured the commitment of the organization to mount campaign against it through traditional, religious and political leaders.

“Our group will bury tribal sentiments and ethnicity through the re-orientation of the youths and other stakeholders’, she insisted.

The president said pursuant to the goal, the group would soon inaugurate the youth arm to be known as Nigerian Youths for Good Citizenship which would be involved in voluntary social services.

The General Manager of NTA, Lady Martina Onoh, commended the group for their foresight and acknowledged that   the youth should be counseled against engaging in activities inimical to their own good and the society.

She frowned against ethnic and tribal tendencies in the body polity and stressed the need for Nigerian to see each other as one.
