Finally, Saraki, Ahmed abandon APC
Finally, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and the Governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatah Ahmed, have defected from the All Progressives Congress, APC.
There had been indications of their possible defection for a long time.
The two top politicians from Kwara State announced their defection on their twitter handles.
Tweeted Saraki: “I wish to inform Nigerians that after extensive consultations, I have decided to take my leave of the All Progressives Congress (APC).”
He however did not state the party he would join.
In a similar manner, Ahmed tweeted: “Following consultations and in response to calls by major stakeholders in the state, I have moved to the PDP as APC can no longer serve as a platform for achieving the aspirations and expectations of my people.”
Earlier in the day, protesters who claimed to be All Progressives Congress members in Kwara State stormed the headquarters of the party, calling for the sack of Saraki.
They made the call just as they praised the National Working Committee of the party which dissolved the Kwara State Executive on Monday.
Speaking for the protesters, Tayo Awodiji, said: “The dissolution of the Balogun APC executives in Kwara State by Adams Oshiomhole and the National Working Committee is highly commendable as it is long awaited.”
On Monday, in order to take away the control of Kwara State APC from him, the executive was dissolved.
The dissolved executive is largely made up of those loyal to Saraki.
