EGTL Fire Incident – CNL Reiterates Commitments to Operational Excellence

Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), operator of the Joint Venture between the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and CNL has confirmed that at about 0700 hours on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, a fire broke out in a container storage facility at its Escravos location away from the production operations area.
According to a press statement signed by the General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Mr. Deji Haastrup, the fire was promptly put out, adding that, “sadly, two employees of Contractors to CNL died as a result of the fire incident. Our hearts go out to their families at this difficult time.”
He said the incident had been reported to all relevant authorities including its Joint Venture Partner, NNPC and the Directorate of Petroleum Resources (DPR), stressing that they are investigating the cause of the incident.
He added that, “Our priority is the safety of our employees and contractors. Chevron wishes to reiterate its commitment to operational excellence, the safety of all personnel, the security of assets and protection of the environment.”
