Owa Oyibu, Ika North East LGA – The Royal Palace in Owa Oyibu was the center of a grand celebration as Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II marked the 65th anniversary of his coronation as the Obi of Owa. The event, which unfolded over two days, highlighted Dr. Efeizomor II’s remarkable contributions to his community and the broader Delta State.
Representing Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme lauded Dr. Efeizomor II for his exceptional leadership. He praised the Obi as a distinguished statesman whose dedication to peace and development has positively impacted societal progress.
The ceremony featured a series of tributes and celebrations, beginning with praise and worship. In his response, Dr. Efeizomor II expressed his gratitude for the divine grace that has sustained his 65-year reign, attributing his success to divine intervention and the support of his community.
Major-General Felix Mujakpuero (rtd) Orhue I, Chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, acknowledged Dr. Efeizomor II’s significant impact on education, youth development, and socio-economic growth during his tenure.
Prof. Eric Eboh, in his citation, highlighted the historical importance of Dr. Efeizomor II’s reign, noting the transformative growth and development he has brought to the Owa Kingdom since his ascension on September 6, 1959.
Bishop Godfrey Ekpenisi of the Ika Diocese, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, delivered an exhortation on the essential leadership skills needed for contemporary challenges, emphasizing the need for transparency, honesty, and inclusivity.
The celebration included vibrant cultural performances, intercessory prayers for the Obi and his family, and the ceremonial cutting of an anniversary cake.
The event was graced by several prominent traditional rulers from across Nigeria, including the Olu of Warri, Ogiamen Atuwatse III, and the Obi of Onitsha, Professor Nnaemeka Achebe, among others.
The two-day festivities also featured traditional homage from chiefs and members of the Obi-in-Council, drawing admiration from both visitors and residents of the Owa Kingdom. The celebrations served as a testament to Dr. Efeizomor II’s enduring legacy and his profound influence on his people and the region.
