DELTA URGES CONTRACTORS TO COMPLETE PROJECTS BEFORE MAY 2015

Delta State Government has called on all contractors handling government projects to use the period of the dry season to fast track all on-going projects and complete them before May 2015.
The Commissioner for Works, Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, made this call in Asaba during a meeting with all contractors handling government projects in the state.
Hon. Funkekeme stated that contractors should continue in the spirit of partnership and accelerate their pace of work, even as he stated that only contractors who complete their work would be paid their outstanding contract fees.
He revealed that the State Government would soon commence massive commissioning of completed projects in the State, hence he said “it is the desire of the State Government to complete all projects before handing over to the new government” he stated.
The Commissioner warned contractors against doing shoddy jobs, as he charged them to use materials and methods that were in line with best practices in the world.
Hon. Funkekeme, who revealed that 98 per cent of the contractors have been paid mobilization fees, stated that the desire of the present government was not to leave any debt behind, even as he said that there would be no payment for any shoddy job done, stressing that when work is properly done it gives room for referral as government is a continuum.
He advised all engineers to ensure that proper evaluation of work done should be carried out.
