Delta State Governor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa has denied plans by his administration to fund the training of lawmakers with 750 million naira.
Governor Okowa said this in Warri, yesterday while paying the people of Itsekiri nation a condolence visit on the demise of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atiwatse II.
Governor Okowa who was speaking to news men immediately after the condolence visit, said whoever is peddling such rumour is lying.
He said; “That is not true. Anybody that tells you that is telling a lie.”
On the state of the roads across the state, Governor Okowa explained that the state government is not doing anything about the roads now because of the rains.
He therefore, said he will attend to all the roads in the state when the rains have stopped.
“I am sure that you are aware that the rains are still on and it is only a mad man that will construct road during the raining season because you only end up destroying the roads. We will attend to the issues of roads in Warri during the dry season,” Governor Okowa said.
On the condolence visit, governor Okowa said the condolence went smoothly as the state government is ready to cooperate with the Itsekiri nation to give the late Ogiame Atuwatse a befitting burial.
“We have come here to find out the level of preparation of the burial rites of the late Olu of Warri, Atuwatse 11. And you know that until that is completed, that is the only time the Olu designate could be installed.
“I am actually here to find out what has been done and how the state government can partner with them ahead of the burial rites ceremony. The meeting went well and we Will partner with them to ensure that the late monarch is given a befitting burial,” Governor Okowa said.
He described the Olu of Warri as a very peaceful man, a states man and a fatherly figure both in Delta State and Nigeria.
Governor Okowa also promised the people of Ode Itsekiri, the ancestral home of the Itsekiri people, that the state government will construct all the access roads in the community before the burial rites of the late monarch will take place.
