DELTA HEALTHCARE BOOST: Oborevwori Inaugurates Multi-Billion Naira Medical Equipment in Warri

In a landmark move to revolutionize healthcare delivery in Delta State, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Wednesday inaugurated a multi-billion naira consignment of state-of-the-art medical equipment at the Central Hospital, Warri.

The new facilities—comprising eight hemodialysis machines, 25 4D ultrasound scanners, and two rugged CT scan machines manufactured in Germany—will be distributed across government-owned hospitals in the three senatorial districts of the state.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Governor Oborevwori emphasized that the equipment acquisition reflects his administration’s commitment to strengthening the state’s health sector.

“This initiative is aimed at significantly improving the quality of healthcare services, especially in reducing maternal and infant mortality and morbidity rates,” he said. “We are committed to ensuring that both our hospitals and primary health centers are well-equipped to deliver quality, effective, and affordable healthcare to all Deltans.”

The Governor was joined by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, who performed the formal commissioning of the equipment. The rollout includes the deployment of three dialysis machines to Central Hospital Warri, two to Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara, and three to Asaba Specialist Hospital.

Highlighting equitable access, Oborevwori announced that each of Delta’s 25 local government areas will receive one of the new ultrasound machines. “While the symbolic gesture may be quiet, the impact will resonate across our communities,” he said.

To ensure optimal use of the devices, the state government, through the Ministry of Health, will also launch a comprehensive training program for primary health center workers across the state.

Governor Oborevwori further revealed that two new CT scan machines had been acquired—one already installed and the second awaiting installation—to address diagnostic needs in areas previously underserved.

Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, praised the Governor for what he described as visionary leadership. He noted that while Asaba Specialist Hospital and the Mother and Child Hospital in Warri already have functioning CT scanners, the new machines will serve other critical areas.

He also lauded the administration’s prompt payment of the Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF), making Delta one of only three Nigerian states to fully implement the policy. The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) recognized this commitment in their recent Ordinary General Meeting.

“His Excellency has also demonstrated integrity and merit-based leadership by sanitizing admissions into nursing schools, making it clear that such decisions must be free from external influence,” Onojaeme added.

The equipment inauguration ceremony was attended by top state officials, including Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, and other dignitaries.

The event was met with applause and optimism as stakeholders hailed the administration’s decisive steps towards a healthier Delta State.
