Delta Governor Oborevwori Focused on Governance, Not Politics – Aniagwu
Delta State Commissioner for Works, Rural Roads, and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, emphasized on Monday that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is committed to delivering impactful governance and is not distracted by political battles.
Speaking at a press briefing in Asaba, Aniagwu stressed that Governor Oborevwori’s focus remains on executing major infrastructural projects and improving the state’s welfare, with plans for more developments ahead of the 2027 elections.
Flanked by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, and Executive Assistant to the Governor on Public Enlightenment (Projects and Policies), Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, Aniagwu refuted claims about Oborevwori’s departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), affirming that the governor remains a proud member of the party and is a recognized leader within its ranks in Nigeria.
The Commissioner outlined several ongoing and completed projects, including the Okpanam-Ibusa bypass, Beneku bridge, the Asaba/Ughelli dual carriageway, and the 6-story High Court Complex in Asaba. He also highlighted new projects, such as three flyover bridges and road expansion works in the Warri and Effurun skyline, being executed by Julius Berger.
“Infrastructure development has been widespread across the state,” Aniagwu noted, mentioning completed road projects in Asaba, Warri, Isoko, Sapele, and Okpe. He further mentioned ongoing efforts in Delta North, such as the construction of the Issele-Azagba-Otulu road and the completion of roads in Ndokwa West and other localities.
Aniagwu also touched on Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to connecting communities through infrastructure, stating that the governor’s priority is the welfare of Deltans. He cited the governor’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as an example of prioritizing governance over political maneuvering.
In the education sector, the administration has established a campus of the Southern Delta State University at Orerokpe and introduced a College of Health Sciences at the Ozoro campus. Healthcare improvements include the upgrade of general hospitals and over 150 primary healthcare centers, along with the establishment of a new College of Health Technology at Ovrode.
On housing, Aniagwu revealed the commencement of a pilot scheme consisting of 50 housing units in Ozoro, Kwale, and Owa-Oyibu, alongside the construction of duplexes to house additional commissioners.
Regarding economic diversification, Aniagwu mentioned a partnership with UTM LNG to harness the state’s vast natural gas reserves. He also highlighted fiscal discipline with over N200 billion paid to reduce the state’s debt stock and ongoing mobilization of contractors for new projects.
Concluding, Aniagwu shared that Governor Oborevwori is committed to revitalizing the state’s media outfits, with plans for the improvement of the state’s broadcast stations in Asaba and Warri.
The Governor’s focus, Aniagwu assured, remains firmly on governance and the delivery of tangible benefits to all Deltans.
