CEPEJ lauds Buhari over implementation of UNEP report On Ogoniland
By Francis Sadhere
Commendation has come the way of President Muhammdu Buhari for taking a bold step in the implementation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) report on Ogoni land.
National Coordinator, Center for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), Comrade Sheriff Mulade, made the commendation, saying the development was the fulfillment of APC campaign promise.
The Center urged the President to extend the clean up to other parts of the Niger Delta region devastated by oil spills.
CEPEJ called on all stakeholders to support the federal government in the implementation of the UNEP report on Ogoni land, even as it urged the militants destroying oil and gas pipelines to show restraint, as the environment was the only heritage of the people.
The Center advised politicians not to politicize the cleanup exercise but should give credit to a party that fulfilled its campaign promise, pointing out that in so doing, there would be a healthy competition among parties to fulfill their promises.
