Armed soldiers have once again stormed Okuama, a community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State. Early Monday morning, heavily armed troops, accompanied by gunboats, launched an aggressive assault on the town, reportedly firing indiscriminately.
A local resident, who spoke to Vanguard while hiding in the bush, detailed the chaotic scene. According to the source, the soldiers approached Okuama on land through Okoloba community after conducting aerial surveillance using drones the previous day.
The military’s actions come just weeks after the arrest of Okuama’s community leaders, intensifying the already tense situation in the area. As of now, the full extent of the damage and the number of casualties remains unclear. Authorities have yet to provide an official statement.
