Bayelsa Cholera Oubreak: UNICEF sends medical intervention

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has sent free medical items to Bayelsa State to help tackle the menace posed by the recent cholera outbreak in Southern Ijaw and Sagbama Local Government Areas of the state.

The items which were sent as part of its notable intervention outreach towards quality healthcare delivery and reduction of mortality rate among young and old have already been channeled to the various communities affected by the outbreak.

Some of the drugs which were sent include Chloramphenical – injections and capsule, Paracetamol syrup for children, Amoxicillin capsules, emergency health kits and 20,000 packets of Oral Rehydration Source (sachets).

The Director of Pharmaceutical Services of the state, Pharmacist Reuben O. Ewoh, who received the intervention drugs from UNICEF, expressed gratitude to them for the kind gesture, adding that they have been of very good help to the state.

“We felt very glad with the intervention of UNICEF. We received the items they sent, checked them and found out that they are of very good quality. This will go a long way in solving the problems the state is facing now,” he stated.

“As soon as we received them, I transferred them to the State Emergency Medical Services at the 500 Bed Hospital. Right now, these items are being channeled to these communities for usage,” he said.

He expressed belief that, with the drugs which the UNICEF has sent, many souls will be saved, stressing that he is very certain Bayelsa will overcome the menace of chelora soonest.
