April 11 Guber Poll: Uduaghan Says PDP Will Sweep Polls Despite Presidential Defeat
By Francis Sadhere
The Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan today said the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state will be victorious in the April 11, 2015 Governorship election.
At a meeting in Warri with PDP members from Delta South Senatorial District, the Governor expressed gratitude to them for the role they played during the last Presidential and National Assembly election.
He said that it was the efforts and commitment of PDP members in the district that gave the overwhelming result that the President got, charging them to double their efforts towards delivering the PDP Governorship and House of Assembly candidates come next Saturday.
The Governor said:”First of all I want to thank all of you for the role you played during the Presidential election. Delta State played its part in the March 28 elections. Most of the votes came from Delta South Senatorial District. We all proud members of the PDP. once again thank you for making us attain such victory. Unfortunately we did not make it at the National level, but that should not disturb us as we are approaching another election in the next few hours. Let us work hard for us to smile at the end of the day.”
On the gale of defection rocking the PDP, the Governor said the defection in Delta State is minimal and there was no cause for alarm.
He said, “it is true that our members have been decamping to other parties since after the first elections. But defection in Delta State has been very minimal. There is no opposition between a President and a Governor; nothing that there is nothing like opposition in governance.
“Let us not be afraid unnecessarily. We shall not suffer as a result of not winning the Presidential election. All we need to do now is to improve on our performance in the April 11 polls.”
“We are all PDP members; let us unite and work together to emerge victorious in the April 11 election. We are ready for the polls, no shaking, no slacking, do not be afraid. We shall win,” Uduaghan said.
He therefore charged PDP members in Delta South Senatorial District to go all out and win more members for next Saturday elections, adding that most of the people rumored to have left the party as still in the party.
The meeting later went into a closed door session.
