Don’t Publish Inciting, Provocative Documents, Delta Commissioner Tells Media Managers

BY Omos Oyibode, Asaba
Delta State Commissioner for Information, Chike Ogeah, has called on media executives to refrain from publishing inciting, provocative, controversial and documents having ethnic inclinations as such would engender disunity as the 2015 elections gather momentum.
Ogeah, who might be speaking from the dust being generated from the controversy surrounding the various publications as a build up the presidential election in the country, appealed to media managers to exercise caution and overlook financial inducement in preference for the unity of Nigeria.
The Commissioner, who addressed journalists yesterday in Asaba, the Delta State capital, noted that media practitioners were partners in the development of the nation, hence the power of the pen should be employed to correct anomalies and not fuel embers of discord and division.
Ogeah said peace was a necessary ingredient for development, hence his primary responsibility in Delta was to ensure the prevalence of peace and unity in the state as the image maker of the state government.
On the certificate saga of the APC Presidential candidate which is causing heat in the polity, he said the law is clear on the matter as the constitutional requirement for any office is basic certificate of West African School Certificate, irrespective of whether the individual possesses Masters degree or PHD, which is deemed to be higher than the basic.
“If you have Ph.D without school certificate, you are not qualified. Ph D is higher but the basic is necessary. That case is clear. Of course, lawyers will do their gymnastics. In the argument of lawyers, it is the best argument that wins as judges are not free to use their senses, they pass judgment based on argument presented by lawyers”, Ogeah noted.
