REJOINDER: Atiku’s Attacks On Tompolo’s TANTITA And Tinubu’s 2027 Campaign Is Political Desperation and Ignorance

By Edie semi Yiki
Our attention has been drawn to the press statement by Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar through his aide Phrank Shaibu, where he raised fresh questions over Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited TSSNL pipeline contract and President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 campaign and the alleged N11.2trn NNPC receivables.
This is nothing but political desperation, mischief and a deliberate attempt to blackmail performing institutions to score cheap 2027 points.
On The N11.2Trn. NNPC Receivables
Alhaji Atiku is deliberately misinforming Nigerians. The N11.2 trillion other receivables in NNPC accounts is not cash given to Tantita or Tompolo. It is federal government subsidy debt, crude oil sales, and joint venture arrears owed TO NNPC by the federation over many years.
Alhaji Atiku as a former Vice President and former customs officer should know basic accounting. If he needs explanation, he should write to Auditor General of the Federation, not drag Tantita into NNPC balance sheet.
On TANTITA And Tompolo
Alhaji Atiku should tell Nigerians what his government did with pipeline security when he was Vice President from 1999-2007 when oil theft was at industrial scale.
The facts are clear: Before Tantita came on board in 2022, Nigeria’s oil production had crashed to 900,000 barrels per day, we could not meet OPEC quota. Today because of Tantita’s community-based surveillance working with Nigerian Army, Navy, and NNPCL production is now 1.8m 2.0m barrels per day. Even NNPCL GCEO and NSA Nuhu Ribadu have publicly commended Tantita.
Tantita’s contract is about N48bn per annum, not trillions, and it covers over 25,000 youths employed from all Niger Delta communities including Itsekiri, Ijaw, Urhobo, Ilaje, Ogoni among many others. The contract goes through public procurement process and is subject to audit.
If Tompolo as a citizen decides to support President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election with campaign vehicles, is that a crime? Did Atiku not use contractors to fund his own campaigns in 2019 and 2023? The right to political association is guaranteed by the Constitution. Tompolo’s support for Tinubu does not mean pipeline money is used for campaign. That is a wicked insinuation.
Conclusion
Alhaji Atiku is crying fowl because his African Democratic Congress(ADC) has no structure in the Niger Delta, he is trying to incite the public against Tompolo to create confusion.
We challenge Atiku to publish any evidence that Tantita received part of N11.2trn, or forever remain silent. President Tinubu should not be distracted by failed politicians.
The Niger Delta stands firmly with Tantita and President Tinubu.
