Warri NUJ Chapel Pledges Partnership with Warri Uvwie & Environs Special Area Devt. Agency on Development Reporting

The newly inaugurated Executives of the Warri Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, have pledged to strengthen professional partnership with the Warri Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency (WUEDA)in promoting development through accurate and responsible journalism
This was disclosed by Comr. Akpokona Omafuaire Esq., chairman , Nigeria Union Of Journalists (NUJ), Warri Correspondents Chapel during a courtesy visit by the Chapel on Hon. Godwin E. Ejinyere, Director General, Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency (WUEDA) at the headquarters of the Agency in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area, he said that
the visit was primarily to formally introduce the new chapel executives to the Director General and his team of Management.
Okakuro Omafuaire Esq. described the Agency as a performing interventionist one whose activities had become increasingly visible across Warri, Uvwie and their environs.
Comr. Omafuaire said that the Chapel was ready to partner with the Agency by giving adequate professional coverage to its activities, particularly its interventions in drainage construction, road development, and other infrastructural projects aimed at improving the quality of life of residents.
He emphasized that journalists have a responsibility to report development initiatives objectively and provide the public with credible information on government projects.
In his comments, Comr. Michael Ikeogwu, immediate past Chairman of the Delta State Council of the NUJ commended Hon. Ejinyere and his team of engineers for their efforts in driving WUEDA’s intervention projects.
Comr. Ikeogwu emphasised the importance of sustained supervision and monitoring of projects to ensure that contractors maintained the required standards and delivered value for public funds.
Also speaking , Okakuro Victor Okies Okpomor, immediate past Chairman of the NUJ, Warri Correspondents Chapel, commended the WUEDA Management for its interventions, while urging the Agency to maintain close supervision of ongoing projects to guarantee quality and durability.
Responding, Prince Ejinyere thanked the journalists for the courtesy visit, he described their observations and constructive comments as valuable to the Agency.
He assured the NUJ delegation that the Agency was committed to delivering quality infrastructure in accordance with acceptable engineering standards, stressing that the WUEDA would continue to ensure that contractors complies with specifications and standards.
The Director-General of WUEDA also appealed to journalists to uphold the ethics of the profession by properly investigating and verifying informations before publication.
Prince Ejinyere said that inaccurate news reports and unverified allegations could mislead the public, damage the reputation of institutions, and contribute to the spread of misinformation and fake news.
According to Prince Ejinyere, “as journalists, please see yourselves as partners in development and use your various platforms to educate the public, highlight genuine challenges and promote constructive engagement between government agencies and the people.
“Governor Sheriff Oborevwori remained committed to restoring the lost glory of Warri, Uvwie and their immediate surroundings, WUEDA’s interventions were part of the Oborevwori administration’s broader effort to address critical infrastructural challenges in the Oil City.”
He called on journalists to adopt a developmental approach to their reportage by giving adequate attention to projects, their objectives, challenges and impact on the people.
Prince Ejinyere spoke further, “beyond the ceremonial character, this visit is significant because it underscores the important relationship between development institutions and the media.
” For an interventionist agency such as WUEDA, whose projects directly affect the daily lives of residents, effective media communication is almost as important as the physical infrastructure being constructed.”
Members of the NUJ new executive who accompanied the Chairman were the Vice Chairman, Comrade Francis Sadhere; Secretary, Comrade Edeki Igafe; Assistant Secretary, Comrade Samuel Ogude; Treasurer, Comrade Onyekachukwu Meluwa; Financial Secretary, Comrade Success Okuchemiya; and Auditor, Comrade Odeya Ogbetuo.
Also on the NUJ delegation were the immediate past Chairman of the Chapel, Comrade Okies Victor Okpomor, and former Chairman of the Delta State Council of the NUJ, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu.
WUEDA’s Director of Administration and Finance, Ochuko Mofe-Ojeke, and the Agency’s Chief Accountant, Mrs. Roseline Okorigba, were among the Management staff of WUEDA present during the meeting.
