Candidates for the 2027 elections across all the political parties have been called upon to make their campaigns to be issue based not to be divisive in their actions.
This advice was given by Engr. Roland Emudianughe, Public Affairs analyst and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC)in an interactive session with Reformeronline in Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, he said that as the countdown to the 2027 general elections begins, candidates and politicians across party lines should conduct their campaigns with decorum, focusing strictly on issues that affect the lives of Nigerians.
Engr. Emudianughe said that the 2027 elections present another critical opportunity for Nigerians to deepen democracy and choose leaders based on competence, capacity and clear-cut programmes, not on divisive sentiments.
He stressed that campaigns should be issue-based and devoid of rancour, mudslinging, character assassination and religious bias if the nation is to have a peaceful and credible electoral process.
According to Engr. Emudianughe, “now that the campaign leading to the 2027 general elections is around the corner, it is imperative that all aspirants conduct their campaigns and let it be issue-based without rancour and devoid of any religious sentiments or bias.
“The electorates are more enlightened now than before. What Nigerians want to hear is how you intend to fix the economy, tackle insecurity, create jobs for our youths, fix our roads, the power sector and improve education and healthcare. Not insults and religious blackmail.”
The All Progressives Congress chieftain noted that campaigns built on sentiments and bitterness have in the past heated up the polity, promoted disunity and distracted from real governance issues.
He therefore urged political parties, their candidates and supporters to market their manifestos and track records, engage in robust debates on policy, and allow the Nigerian people to decide on the basis of superior ideas.
He further appealed to the media, civil society organizations, religious leaders and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to play their part in ensuring that the pre-election atmosphere remains peaceful.
Engr. Emudianughe added, “Ngeria needs peace to develop. If we get the campaigns right by making it issue-based, we will get the elections right and we will get governance right”.
