The President General of Afiesere Community, Chief Luke Umukoro, has highlighted his achievements in infrastructure, education, youth empowerment and social welfare as it marked its second-year conference at the Afiesere Community Town Hall.
Speaking at the occasion on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, Umukoro said his administration had, in the last two years, remained committed to fulfilling the mandate given to it by the people through purposeful engagement and service-oriented leadership.
Umukoro said his administration’s efforts had contributed to attracting major development projects to the community, particularly in the areas of roads, electricity and street lighting.
He disclosed that the community had attracted road and lighting projects through the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), noting that the interventions were opening up roads and improving visibility and movement within Afiesere.
According to him, one of the major milestones recorded by the administration was the completion of the 60MVA transformer project by the Federal Government, describing it as a landmark development capable of improving electricity supply in Afiesere and neighbouring communities.
He expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for completing the project, describing it as a demonstration of its commitment to improving power infrastructure in the area.
On education, Umukoro said his administration had prioritised the future of Afiesere youths by paying enrolment fees for indigent students sitting for the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations.
He stressed that no child from Afiesere should be prevented from pursuing education or sitting for crucial examinations because of financial constraints.
The community leader also disclosed that the administration had commenced skills acquisition programmes designed to equip youths and other indigenes with practical skills for economic independence.
He listed tailoring, information and communication technology (ICT), welding and agro-business among the areas covered by the programmes, saying the initiative was aimed at producing self-reliant youths and future employers of labour.
Umukoro further stated that the administration had established a welfare programme for elderly members of the community as part of its efforts to promote inclusive development and ensure that vulnerable members of Afiesere were not left behind.
He described the achievements as only the beginning, calling for continued unity, prayers and support from the people to enable the leadership attract more development to the community.
He thanked the executive council, traditional chiefs, women, youths and other stakeholders for their support, while specifically appreciating the NDDC and Federal Government for their interventions in Afiesere.
“Leadership is about service,” Umukoro said, stressing that his administration would continue to work with relevant authorities and stakeholders to advance the interests of the community.
He urged the people to continue to work together in peace and unity, expressing optimism that greater development would come to Afiesere in the years ahead.
