The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, has inaugurated a five-member Credentials Committee to oversee its forthcoming Triennial Delegates Conference election scheduled for October 2026.

The committee was nominated and approved during the union’s congress held on Tuesday at the NUJ Press Centre, Maryam Babangida Way, Asaba.

Inaugurating the committee, the Chairman of the NUJ Delta State Council, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, charged members to carry out their assignment with integrity, transparency and impartiality. He stressed the need to uphold the democratic principles of the union and ensure a credible, free and fair electoral process.

Responding on behalf of the committee, its Chairman, Comrade Victor Eyaguobor, thanked members of the congress for the confidence reposed in them and assured the union that the committee would conduct a transparent, credible and peaceful election.

Eyaguobor pledged that the committee would remain impartial throughout the exercise, guaranteeing a level playing field for all aspirants and stakeholders. He said every decision of the committee would be guided strictly by the NUJ Constitution and the principles of justice and fairness.

He expressed optimism that the October election would be devoid of the controversies that had characterized some previous electoral exercises in the council.

“This committee will be fair to everyone. We are committed to ensuring a transparent and credible election. We do not want a situation where every election ends in disputes. This time, we are determined to deliver a process that all members can be proud of. We appreciate the confidence reposed in us, and we assure you that we will not disappoint,” Eyaguobor said.

The committee comprises Comrade Victor Eyaguobor as Chairman, Comrade Abel Johngold as Secretary, while Comrade Mathias Ogbagah, Comrade Mrs. Kessiena Egajivwie and Chief Akpokona Omafuaire will serve as members.
