CDHR Calls On Delta C. P To Caution His Men Over Allege Involvement In Land Grabbing

The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) expresses deep concern over growing involvement of some police officers allegedly aiding and abetting land grabbing activities across Delta State.

This call was made in a statement signed by Dr. Kehinde P. Taiga, National President, Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) in Warri, the group wondered why a senior officer should be allegedly involved in such act.

Dr. Taiga said, “we call on the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, Delta State Command, to urgently caution his men, particularly the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi to desist from any form of allege collaboration with land grabbers.

“The police are entrusted with the duty of protecting lives and property, not facilitating illegality and oppression.

“CDHR is alarmed by a recent disturbing incident in Asaba, where police officers reportedly confronted one another in the course of protecting the interests of land grabbers. This embarrassing and dangerous development reflects a serious breakdown of discipline and professionalism within the force.”

Dr. Taiga warned that if this issue of allege police complicity in land grabbing is not immediately addressed, “CDHR will have no option but to mobilize and lead a peaceful protest of over 5,000 youths against the Delta State Police Command to demand accountability and justice.

“We urge the police hierarchy to act swiftly to restore public confidence, uphold the rule of law, and ensure that officers found culpable are brought to book.
