Warri City Stadium Boasts World-Class Security Architecture – Inspection Team

From Francis Sadhere, Warri

The newly reconstructed Warri City Stadium in Delta State is set to rank among Nigeria’s most secure sporting facilities, following an inspection led by the State Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Onoriode Oborevwori.

Members of the inspection team, including FIFA-licensed football agent and brand strategist, Dr. Drew Uyi, and Project Manager, Engr. Samuel Egoruriemu, expressed satisfaction with the stadium’s advanced security architecture, describing it as “top-notch” and capable of meeting international standards.

Dr. Uyi, who conducted a detailed assessment of the facility, emphasized that the stadium’s security system stands out as one of its most impressive features.

“The security system here is exceptional. Surveillance cameras can monitor activities within and beyond the stadium up to a radius of about 10 kilometres. This goes beyond protecting just the facility—it secures the surrounding environment as well,” he said.

He explained that the system allows authorities to detect potential threats long before they reach the stadium, ensuring proactive response measures. According to him, the design also incorporates more than 10 access points, which significantly enhances crowd control and movement during major events.

“These cameras provide real-time monitoring of spectators as they approach and enter the stadium, making crowd management far more efficient,” he added.

Corroborating this, Project Manager, Engr. Samuel Egoruriemu, noted that security was a central consideration in the stadium’s design and execution.

“This facility is protected up to 10 kilometres away with advanced CCTV systems capable of monitoring both internal and external activities. We also have specialised features integrated into the system to strengthen overall safety and surveillance,” he said.

He further revealed plans to expand the stadium’s technological capabilities, including linking it with other major stadia across the state.

“In the near future, we intend to connect this stadium with at least four others, allowing real-time viewing of matches across different locations. For example, a match played in Warri can be viewed in Asaba, and vice versa,” Egoruriemu explained.

Beyond security, the inspection team noted that the stadium is nearing completion, with structural works on the main bowl already finished and only minor finishing touches remaining. The pitch, planted just weeks ago, is already taking shape and is expected to be match-ready within three months.

The facility, which has a seating capacity of about 15,100, meets FIFA standards and is classified within the third-highest category of international stadia. It is considered suitable for hosting major competitions, including Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) matches and World Cup qualifiers.

With its combination of advanced security systems, modern infrastructure, and strategic location, stakeholders believe the Warri City Stadium is well-positioned to become a major hub for sports and entertainment in Nigeria.
