Council Boss Condemns Attacks On Chevron Facilities

The recent attack on the Bibi Field facilities of Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) at Eghoro Community of Warri North Local Government Area has been condemned just as it has been described as a dastard act and barbaric.
This condemnation was given by Hon. Festus Ashima, Chairman, Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State in a statement made available to journalists in Warri, he pledged a sum of N5 million for anyone with useful information that could aid in the arrest of the perpetrators of the nefarious act on the nations National Critical Assets.
It could be recalled that a faceless group, codename Niger Delta Liberation Movement had claimed responsibilities of the multiple attacks carried out on the multinational’s facilities on last Friday.
The damaged pipelines conveys various petroleum products including natural gas and crude oil.
Hon. Ashima said that he would partner security agencies to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators of the crime, noting that destruction of critical infrastructure posed significant threat to the ecosystem and public safety.
Hon. Ashima said that the act also undermined the economic development of the community and state.
According to Hon. Asima, “I strongly condemn the recent attack perpetrated by some criminal elements on the Chevron Oil Pipeline at Bibi Field in Eghoro Ward in Warri North Local Government Area.
“This dastard act, allegedly carried out under the guise of demanding for employment, is grossly unacceptable. Anyone with useful information on those behind it will be
rewarded with N5 million.
‘The destruction of critical infrastructure does not only pose a significant threat to the environment and public safety but also undermines the economic growth of our community.
“I want to assure the good people of Warri North that we will not tolerate and succumb to the demands of these criminals.
“Instead, we will work closely with the relevant security agencies to ensure those responsible for this heinous crime are brought to book,” he said.
The Council Boss called for a unity of purpose among the people to build a safer, more prosperous and peaceful community.
Hon. Ashima, while pledging his administration’s commitment to creating job opportunities through effective collaboration with reputable organisations, he appealed to the youths to resist the temptation of indulging in destructive activities.
He, however, lauded security agencies for their prompt response to the incident and assured them of continuous support.
