EFI Partners Bomadi LGC on Mental Health Programme


In a move geared towards restoring hope to the hopeless in the face of the prevailing economic hardship confronting the people, the Eye on the Future Initiative (EFI) in collaboration with Bomadi Local Government Council have planned a mental health outreach for the people of the local government area.

Bomadi Council Boss, Chief (Hon), Dagidi Andaye, speaking during a courtesy visit of members of the EFI, stated that the present economic challenges have increased the level of poverty among the people.

The chairman who described the initiative as noble said the economic situation is not just affecting the body of the people but their mental health, saying something drastic must be done to address the vexed situation.


He explained that having felt the need of the people, his administration decided to embark on an Empowerment programme to train and equip the beneficiaries with starter packs so as to ameliorate their plights.

According to him, the mental health outreach was a welcome development, saying that he was in full support of the programme aimed at making lives better for the people just as he expressed gratitude to the NGO for embarking on the project for the people.

Earlier, the Executive Director of EFI, Comrade Josephine Omodior said that the prevailing inflation in the country occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy was threatening not just the body of the people but their peace of mind.

Comrade Omodior who stated that many people are slipping into depression as a result of their inability to cater for themselves or families noted that there was a worrisome increase in broken marriages, malnutrition, hypertension and suicide in the State.

She added that current economic challenges was posing great threat to the people and the society at large.

Explaining the reason behind the outreach, she said that the EFI mental healthcare programme tagged “Nor kill yourself, E go better” was targeted at encouraging the people to be steadfast in their hope for a better tomorrow .

She noted that the Health vision of the NGO aligns with the Goal 3 of the sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs) to Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages as well as the Realistic Reform of the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori led administration as it is designed to bring hope to the masses in the face of the economic challenges.

Appreciating Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, for his commitment in cushioning the effect of subsidy removal on the lives of Deltans, Comrade Omodior also commended the unrelenting efforts of the Local Government Chairman towards improving the lives of Bomadi people since he assumed office about 100 days ago.
