Our Democracy on threshold of being threatened, says group
By Francis Sadhere, Warri
A political group under the auspices of Concerned Citizens of Nigeria has said that the country”s democracy is on the threshold of being threatened.
National Coordinator of the group Ambassador Anthony Nwangwu made this statement in Warri yesterday while speaking to journalists in Warri reacting to the recent attacks on Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state by police men.
Ambassadors Nwangwu said what happened to Governor Fayose is a prelude of what is going to happen in the 2019 general elections, lambasting the government of the day of insensitivity.
He said the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari has failed to live up to his campaign promises as the situation in the country is getting worse everyday otherwise what happened to Governor Fayose in Ekiti would not have happened.
“Democracy is on threshold of being threatened. This is not the government we voted for in 2015. Things are getting worse everyday under the nose of Buhari. What happened in Ekiti is just a prelude of what is going to happen in 2019. President Buhari wants to use federal might to intimidate the people of Ekiti state. If not how will you explain what the police did to Governor Fayose,” Ambassador Nwangwu said.
He also condemned the massive killings going on in the North under the nose of President Buhari who he accused of allegedly allowing the killing to go on unabated.
Ambassador Nwangwu also accused the President of supporting the Fulani herdsmen in their quest to ‘Islamize’ Nigeria, saying Buhari’s silence and refusal to label the herdsmen as terrorists group is a prove that he is supporting them.
He wondered why President Buhari has refused to proscribe the Fulani herdsmen as a terrorists group while the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) who were only agitating for their freedom without shedding any blood, were proscribed.
“We believed that President Buhari and the Fulani herdsmen have an agenda to Islamize Nigeria and that is why he is not doing anything to stop the killings going on everyday in the country. The Fulani herdsmen tried it in Ghana but the government of Ghana chased them away. When IPOB came up, Buhari sent the army to kill them and labeled them as terrorists group.
“Why has Buhari refused to proscribed the these Fulani herdsmen who have been killing people like cows. We believed that the simple reason Buhari refused to deal with the Fulani herdsmen is because they are his people and they have an agenda. And some Southerners are busy supporting this government for all the killings going in the country,” Ambassador Nwaorgu said.
While criticizing the government of under President Buhari, Ambassadors Nwaorgu said the only solution to solving Nigeria’s problems was to vote President Buhari out of government in the coming election.
He therefore advised Nigerians to vote for a candidate that will march President Buhari in the 2019 general elections, adding that the only candidate the group has faith in and who they believed will take the country out of the present quagmire is the former Vice President of the country, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
The group said Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is the only candidate that can wrestle power from the hands of the ruling APC because Atiku has promised Nigerians that he will restructure the country when he gets into power.
The group said the reason why they are aligning themselves to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was because Atiku has the same ideology as the group, adding that they believed that the only way the country can solve the myriads of problems it has was for the country to be restructured.
“The problems we have in this country is caused by structural imbalance. We are in a country that has poeple with multi-cultural differences living together as one. Each state cannot continue to go cap in hand every month to the federal government begging for money. Each state must be allowed to develop at its own pace with their own natural resources. Atiku has a blueprint that will lead this country to that stage
“The discovery of oil in Nigeria has made us to be rich yet we have not progressed beyond where we are today. We are where are today because of the imbalance we are talking about. Nigerians are sick and tired of this government. This government has no value for human life. People are dying like chicken everyday yet we have a government that is supposed to protect lives and properties.
Ambassador Nwaorgu also advocated for the creation of State Police, arguing that with state police governors will have complete security powers to handle any security challenges they will face in their various states without running to the federal government.
“The solution to this herdsmen killings is for each state to have their own police. The governors must be allowed to police their own states because we believed that once the governors are given the powers to police their own state the governors will not allow people from other state to come and kill their people, the group said.
