By Francis Sadhere Warri
Warri, Delta State – June 4, 2025 – As part of activities marking his second anniversary in office, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Wednesday, inaugurated multiple road projects in Warri South Local Government Area, underscoring his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and urban renewal.
The commissioning ceremony, held at the rehabilitated Upper and Lower Erejuwa Roads, saw the Governor call on residents of Warri to continue to maintain peace and support government efforts toward sustainable development.
Other roads commissioned during the event included the General Hospital Road linking Police Command Road, Ajamimogha/Mabiaku Link Road, Ogunu Community Main and Internal Roads, Ugbuwangue Community Roads, and Okere Market Road—all within the Warri metropolis.
“These roads are not only vital for trade and commerce but also play a key role in our broader efforts at urban renewal,” the Governor said. “With good roads, our people are happier, more productive, and their journeys become safer and smoother.”
Reaffirming his administration’s dedication to infrastructural growth, Oborevwori said the construction of three flyovers and slip roads by Julius Berger was progressing well and expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2026. He also revealed that, despite initial challenges in securing land, the reconstruction of the Warri Stadium has been awarded and would be completed within the same timeframe.
Highlighting progress under his MORE Agenda (Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security), the Governor assured residents that more projects would be inaugurated across the state’s three senatorial districts in the coming months.
He also addressed the sensitive issue of ward delineation in the Warri Federal Constituency, urging all stakeholders to remain calm while relevant federal authorities resolve the matter. “I am managing everybody here in Warri because the issues are very sensitive,” he said. “Do not drag us into unnecessary issues. Let us maintain peace.”
Oborevwori called on the youth to embrace peace and participate in the various vocational training programmes offered by the government. He emphasized that these initiatives are geared toward equipping them with the technical skills needed for sustainable livelihoods.
He also reiterated the prohibition of ‘Deve’—the illegal levy on land developers—enacted into law in 2018 during his tenure as Speaker of the State Assembly. “Anyone who unlawfully enters private property will face the full weight of the law,” he warned.
On the issue of security, the Governor assured residents that his administration was working closely with security agencies to combat criminal activities such as kidnapping. “Stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity,” he urged, noting that community collaboration is vital to ensuring safety.
Speaking at the ceremony, the State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, described the road projects as a strategic part of the urban renewal initiative, stating that the administration’s transformation drive was fully aligned with the MORE Agenda.
Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Hon. Agbateyinro Weyinmi Isaac, lauded the Governor for the developmental strides in the region, expressing the people’s gratitude for the administration’s infrastructural interventions.
The event drew notable dignitaries, including the State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme; Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Chief Festus Keyamo (SAN); Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor; and traditional rulers including the Olu of Warri, HRM Atuwatse III, the Orosuen of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, HRM Morris Ochuko Eyekpimi (Ohwotemu II), and the Ovie of Agbarha-Warri Kingdom, HRM Kingsley Orereh (Igbi II).
