IMPERSONATION: A CALL FOR ARREST, PROSECUTION OF CHIEF AMORI

Ighoyota Amori

By Zik Gbemre

…Chief Amori has no legitimacy to refer to himself or be addressed as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

…Having failed to accept the reality and still parading himself as a Senator, only an arrest and formal prosecution and punishment would deter him

…He also needs to be stopped from bringing shame to Urhobo nation in the guise of DC-23 with his politics of extortion and betrayal of Urhobo as he did with the UPF in 2007

I am compelled to renew the call for arrest and prosecution of Ighoyota Amori for shamelessly sustaining his impersonation as a Senator which he is not and continuing to bring shame to Urhobo nation with his renewed conspiracies to betray Delta Central in party politics and political power sharing in Delta.

I had thought that Amori would have learnt his lessons, even when I yielded to appeals from prominent Urhobos and friends to soft-pedal on my initial call for his prosecution for parading himself as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which he’s not, having been sacked from his brief stolen mandate in the Senate in 2015.

I had thought that just like his life political godfather, Chief James Ibori, Amori should stay at the background of partisan politics and not to be heard, to save his face for the shame and unfair recognition their politics of greed has brought Urhobo at both Delta state and national power sharing.

It is very evident that unrepentant Amori is not remorseful about the depth of dishonour his past politics of greed has brought Urhobo, fronting the divisive Urhobo Political Forum (UPF), his chief tool of betrayal of Urhobos in politics.

It is disappointing that rather than show remorse, Amori has chosen to rebrand the UPF as DC-23 to sustain his unguarded utterances to unsettle Urhobo towards a governance transition in which the tacit rotational governorship has circled to Urhobo’s turn again. And he’s doing so and still impersonating about as Senator Amori.

I find, very irritating, the news Publication shared by Sunday Apah on Tuesday, October 12, quoting the impostor Amori as saying that any Delta Central aspirant chosen by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for Governor is who Delta Central will support to succeed Okowa as rotation returns to Urhobo.

How disgusting can you cheapen dirty politics? Amori has been bragging about his DC-23 as representing or speaking for Urhobo. Assuming without conceding to this impunity, for the most populous ethnic nationality in Delta state, Urhobo can’t think and pick a governor for themselves. It is the incumbent Governor, an Ika politician that should now have the prerogative to choose and impose on us.

This was the same dirty politics of pretentious loyalty that made Uduaghan, sustained by Okowa, chose a non Urhobo, Chief Esiso, as Chairman of Delta PDP as though he was chosen as Urhobo nominee for the seat. It is the same politics of taking whatever the Governor throws at Delta Central that made Okowa impose another Itsekiri man, Ejele, to occupy Urhobo’s turn as DESOPADEC Chairman.

Not only I am strongly kicking against Amori’s dirty politics to fool Urhobo a second time, I am renewing the call for his arrest and prosecution as an impersonator Senator, if only to shut him up from making further unguarded statement to ridicule Urhobo in the politics of Delta. If an incumbent Governor’s fiat is easy to impose, why didn’t Okowa accept it when his predecessor, Uduaghan was bent on lording a spontaneously retired State Permanent Secretary, Tony Obuh, over Okowa as Governor?

If all Amori desires is to support anyone Okowa picks to succeed him, why wasting precious time and extorting money from politicians, moving about campaigning and disturbing the public space with DC-23 across the state for Okowa’s successor?

This time, relevant authorities have a duty to address this lawlessness of Amori. It is lawlessness for Amori to go about claiming he’s Senator, with a letterhead to the effect.

Chief Ighoyota Amori (JP), is still parading himself as a current Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, despite the official annulment of his election by the Court of Appeal in Benin in 2015.

Amori, Representing Delta Central Senatorial District on a stolen mandate was also Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Marine Transport for few months. With the annulment of his election, he should be refunding all benefits he got in that office, and not to continue parading as a Senator.

When I first noticed it, Amori after being sacked from office had used a letter-head bearing logo of The Senate, Federal Republic of Nigeria, and his name boldly written on it as SENATOR IGHOYOTA AMORI (JP), Delta Central Senatorial District, Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Marine Transport, Suite 1, 10 National Assembly Complex (Senate) Three Arms Zone, P. M. B. 141, Garki Abuja; to send a Condolence message to his Political associate, Dr. Chris Oghenechovwe, who lost his mother and the burial done in 2016.

If that exuberance was pardonable at those early stage after annulment of his election, it is certainly unpardonable today that he still continues to pose as a Senator. Amori was never a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has no right to refer to himself, or be called a Senator.

The “Once a Senator Always a Senator” nomenclature does not apply to a claimant of stolen mandate, Chief Ighoyota Amori was never a Senator. He has no legitimacy to use the title.

I believe, with the impunity, only arrest and prosecution of Chief Amori will teach him the hard lesson and deter others who might be nursing or engaging in such public misconduct.

Nigerian politicians should be reminded that they are not above the law, neither should they neglect or disregard Court decisions concerning their elections. This lawlessness has to stop.

I have the GSM contact of Chief Ighoyota Amori: 08033079469 and I hope law enforcement authorities should move against him accordingly. He must also stop, forthwith, his beggarly politics of bringing shame to Urhobo in the name of DC-23 or any guise whatsoever.
