OGHENETEJIRI NYERHOVWO
Olorogun Kennet Gbagi, former Minister for Education, State has declared his intention to contest the governorship seat of Delta State on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP)just as he said that the ‘gentleman governorship zoning arrangement being practiced in the Party in the state was not made on tribal levels but on the basis of senatorial districts.
Making his intention known at a luncheon with journalists from across the state at his Country home in Oginibo, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, Olorogun Gbagi disclosed that he has already commenced consultations for the 2023 gubernatorial race.
Olorogun Gbagi promised to administer the affairs of the State transparently well without using government’s money and vehicles if given the mandate adding that he is out to leave his footprints in the sands of time by touching lives of the people positively.
According to Olorogun Gbagi, “if at the end of my one year you did not see dreams, magic, industries coming back, removing Deltans from the streets, I will tender my resignation.”
Speaking on the zoning, Olorogun Gbagi said that governorship position was not zoned to tribes but to Senatorial Districts, adding that, Chief James Onanefe Ibori took the slot meant for Delta Central, while Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan took the slot of Delta South and Senator Ifeanyi Okowa is currently serving out the slot of Delta North.
Olorogun Gbagi added, “we did not zone the Governorship position to tribes. I want us to correct this very issue. We zoned it to Senatorial Districts. It is left for the people of the Delta Central Senatorial District to discuss and come up with a Candidate.”
While noting that the Urhobos in Delta Central Senatorial District alone cannot produce the governor of the State, Olorogun Gbagi urged the Urhobos to work together with other ethnic groups in the State for their candidate to emerge.
He spoke further, ” we (Urhobos) will manage our affairs. I will consult the leadership of the Urhobo Progress Union(UPU)Worldwide over my political ambition. I have started my race and I know am doing very well and at the appropriate time, we will separate the boys from the men. I have the bullets to run for the battle.”
Olorogun Gbagi said there is no room for children who are still being pampered by their parents in the race, adding, “this is a business for the adults who are capable. We are not going to live it for younger persons. “
He scored Governor Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa led administration very high saying, “he has performed creditably well. I want to follow up from where he stopped if given the mandate.”
