The people of Okwagbe Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area have lamented the poor state of the Okwagbe-Jeremi Road just as they called on the contractor handling the project to mobilize to site now that the rains have not started.

They expressed this when they: leaders, women, youths and elders visited the site of the abandoned road project, the people described the action of the contractor as being callous and insensitive to their plight.

The indigenes bemoaned their plight over the deplorable condition of the road which is the only link and access road to some communities in Ughelli South, Bomadi and Burutu Local Government Areas.

Speaking to the National reformer, Olorogun Okiemute Oviri Okwagbe, one of the community leaders disclosed that the contract for the rehabilitation of the road has been awarded to a contractor by the Senator Ifeanyi Okowa led administration, he wondered why the said contractor has not mobilized to site after many months to commence work now that the weather is friendly for construction work.

Olorogun Okwagbe further disclosed that the road which is of strategic socio-economic to the state because it is the only access road to some Urhobo and Ijaw communities of Ughelli South, Burutu and Bomadi Local Government Areas is usually flooded and almost impassable during the rainy season.

According to OLorogun Okwagbe, “indigenes and residents are mainly farmers, the deplorable condition of the road is making it very difficult for them to take their farm produce to neighboring urban markets.”

He then called on the contractor to mobilize to site to commence construction work now that the rainy season has not come with a view to ameliorate the plight of the people.
