Crisis in Itsekiri Kingdom as Regent suspends Traditional Prime Minister
The Regent of Warri Kingdom, Prince Emmanuel Okotie-Eboh, has suspended the Ologbotsere (Prime Minister) and second in command to the Olu of Warri Kingdom, Chief Ayeri Emami.
The regent said Chief Emami “is to immediately step aside as the Ologbotsere and stop parading himself as such.”
Prince Okoti-Eboh, while addressing a gathering of Itsekiri elders and youths at the palace this evening, said the Ologbotsere, was suspended having exhibited actions and tendencies unbecoming of the position he occupies.
The suspension, according to the Regent was as also as a result of the disqualification of Prince Tsola Emiko, by the Olu’s Advisory Council, headed by Chief Emami.
According to the regent, the Olu’s Advisory Council has no powers, according to the edict, to “disqualify any candidate presented to them by the Ruling House.”
“The only prescribed function is to summon the elders and senior officials of the Ruling House, and in the presence of the regent consult the Ifa Oracle one last time,” the regent said.
The Regent further said that “this singular illegal action of ‘disqualification’ is threatening the relative peace in Warri Kingdom and almost tearing apart the very fabric of our existence.”
“Chief Emami had been carrying on with a bend and fiendish mentality bothering on suspected temporary lose of his right senses.
“At a meeting of the Council of Chiefs, who have from time to time gathered to try and make him see reason, Chief Ayiri will shout down both the old and the very not old, and use his thugs to threaten anyone who dared oppose his jaundiced views,” the Regent added.
Prince Okoti-Eboh said he took the decisions as the regent of Warri kingdom, duly elected by the entire ruling house and officially presented to Chief Ayiri Emami and the Advisory Council.
The Iyatsere, who is the next in commands and the most Senior chief who accompanied Ginuwa 1 from Benin to found three Warri Kingdom, was immediately appointed as the acting Chairman of the Council of Chiefs and the Olu’s Advisory Council.
“He is to take over immediately and steer the remainder of the process to give us an organized, speedy closure,” the Regent said.
President, Itsekiri National Youth Council, Comrade Weyemi Agbateyiniro, who spoke to Journalists on the sideline, said that Prince Tsola Emiko is the heir apparent of Warri Kingdom.
“The process of succession to the throne of Warri Kingdom is heavily spiritual and traditional with little or no room for human interference. We therefore reject in totality the human factor that was injected at the level of the Olu’s Advisory Council, wherein, rather than using the oracle as required by the edict, human interference was manipulated in rejecting the nomination of the Ginuwa ruling House,” Agbateyiniro said.
