The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, describing his passing as the end of a significant chapter in the state’s history.
The Chapel, in a condolence statement issued on Monday and signed by its Chairman, Chief Akpokona Omafuaire, and Secretary, Comrade Edeki Igafe, said the former governor’s death was a painful loss to the journalism community in Delta State.
The statement described Uduaghan as a father figure who maintained a cordial relationship with journalists and remained accessible to members of the Chapel during his tenure as governor.
According to the Chapel, Uduaghan distinguished himself as a leader who understood the importance of the media and sustained a friendly relationship with journalists.
“The final page turns; the echoes remain; some footprints outlive the journey,” the statement read.
Expressing its grief over the former governor’s demise, the Chapel said, “We received with heavy hearts the transition of our former governor, Dr Uduaghan.”
It added that the former governor was a father to the Chapel and was always available to its members whenever they needed his attention.
“The former governor was a father and always there for us. Uduaghan was the most media-friendly governor that Delta State has ever produced,” the statement said.
The Chapel noted that the former governor’s disposition towards journalists had earned him a special place in the hearts of members of the Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, adding that his passing would leave a vacuum in the state’s political and media landscape.
The NUJ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel extended its condolences to Uduaghan’s immediate family, praying that God would grant them the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
