Southern Delta University (SDU), Ozoro recorded a historic milestone with the maiden induction of 344 graduating engineering students into the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).
The ceremony was organised in collaboration with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).
The induction marks a significant step in the University’s commitment to producing professionally grounded engineering graduates equipped to contribute meaningfully to national development.
The ceremony featured distinguished engineering professionals, academics and University officials, including the Guest Speaker, Engr. Prof. Hillary Ijeomah Owamah, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Delta State University, Abraka; Engr. Roland Uveruve, representative of the NSE President; Engr. Gradeone O. Idama, Chairman, NSE Ughelli Branch represented by Engr Iwemah; Prof. Peters Akpoturi, Chairman, COREN SDU Committee; and Prof. Presly Obukoadata, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, SDU, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sunny Awhefeada.
In his keynote address, titled “Beyond Graduation: Navigating the Journey from Graduate Engineer to Professional Engineer,” Prof. Owamah challenged the inductees to transform Nigeria’s developmental challenges into opportunities for innovation and indigenous solutions.
Engr. Owamah called on them them to combine academic knowledge with practical experience, seek mentorship, document their professional achievements and continually build competence, character and capacity.
The ceremony climaxed with the oath-taking led by Engr. Iwemah who represented the Chairman Engr. Gradeone Idama and the formal induction of the 344 graduates into the NSE by Engr. Roland Uveruve.
The maiden induction marks a new chapter for Southern Delta University’s engineering graduates as they transit from academic training into the professional world as a new chapter begins with a new generation of engineers emerging.
