Oyeniyi Seeks Public Support in Fight Against Crime

The Commissioner of Police (CP), Delta State Command, Mr Yemi Oyeniyi, has called on residents of the state to support the police in tackling crime.
Oyeniyi made the call on Wednesday, during his familiarization tour of the Warri Area Command.
The police commissioner said that security was a collective responsibility that required the participation of every citizen.
The commissioner was received by the Warri Area Commander, ACP Graham Imade alongside the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) of A Division and B Division.
Addressing the people, Oyeniyi appreciated President Bola Tinubu for his continued support for the Nigeria Police Force.
The police boss reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and properties across the state.
Oyeniyi emphasised that while the police would continue to discharge their constitutional duties, the public also had vital role to play in maintaining peace and security.
“Wherever we are lagging, we must work harder because policing requires collective effort
“Residents should not remain silent when they get information that could help prevent crime, see something, say something,” he said.
The CP assured residents that the command would continue to provide a safe environment where people could carry out their businesses and other lawful activities without fear or intimidation.
He urged Nigerians to protect government infrastructure, noting that public properties belongs to everyone and should be safeguarded.
Oyeniyi appealed to parents and guardians to prevent their children from indulging in drug abuse, cultism and other social vices, stressing that good character begins at home.
The police boss cautioned members of the public against spreading unverified information on social media.
“Always verify facts before sharing to avoid misinforming the the public,” he said.
Oyeniyi urged residents to embrace peaceful coexistence, respect the law and work together to build a safer and more prosperous society.
While lauding the people for their continuous support and cooperation, Oyeniyi assured that the State Command remained committed to promoting peace, protecting lives and securing property throughout the state.
In attendance were: representatives of the Delta State Vigilante; the Executive Director representing Delta State Board of Internal Revenue, officials of the State Anti-Cult Unit, community leaders and other stakeholders.
The event featured cultural dance, comedy presentations and goodwill messages by pupils of the Police Children School of the Warri Area Command.
