Delta Police Smash Cult Network, Recover Arms, Arraign 18 Suspects

The Delta State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on cultism, drug-related crime, and the illegal circulation of firearms across the state, recording significant breakthroughs in Abraka and other strategic locations.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, carried out a coordinated intelligence-driven raid at Umeghe Community, Abraka, on December 6, 2025.

During the operation, officers searched the residence of a 67-year-old suspect, Isiakpere Friday, where two pump-action guns and 39 live cartridges were recovered. The suspect was subsequently arrested as investigators broaden their probe to uncover potential links to cult groups, arms suppliers, and violent criminal gangs operating in the area.

In a separate operation aimed at curbing the rising sale and abuse of illicit drugs, operatives of the Command’s Buffalo Unit arrested and arraigned 18 male suspects before a competent court on December 5.

The arrests followed sustained intelligence gathering and raids at locations notorious for drug activities, including the Play-Learn Area, Sweet Spirit Area, and Pinnacle Junction. The suspects, aged between 16 and 38, were remanded pending the fulfilment of their bail conditions.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the officers involved in both operations, emphasising that the Command will continue to deploy intelligence-led strategies to dismantle criminal networks across Delta State.

He assured residents that the police remain resolute in the fight against cultism, drug trafficking, and arms proliferation, urging the public to continue providing credible information that can aid ongoing security efforts.
