My Tenure As Vice Chancellor, FUPRE Is Memorable, Instructive–Prof. Rim-Rukeh

Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, outgoing Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE) has said that his single tenure of five years as Vice Chancellor of the specialized University is memorable, instructive as well as Wonderful.
Addressing journalists in the University ahead of the expiration of his tenure on Friday, May 2, 2025, Prof. Rim-Rukeh said that the journey is historic because it was the first time since the inception of the University, an out going Vice Chancellor is making a valedictory speech.
According to Prof. Rim-Rukeh, “the single tenure of five years is coming to an end but certainly memorable, fruitful, Wonderful and rewarding, yet an instructive journey in the history of FUPRE and in my journey through life. This is historic, being the first time, a valedictory speech is made by an outgoing Vice Chancellor.”
Prof. Rim-Rukeh disclosed that on assumption of duty, May 4, 2020, his vision, “to make FUPRE a globally connected petroleum University whose transformative research and teaching places the University at the forefront of leadership in energy discoveries benefiting to society as a whole” revolves round six pillars.
The outgoing Vice Chancellor noted that the realization of his vision revolves round six pillars which were, “teaching and learning excellence, achieving research excellence, achieving increased funding, attracting regional/international faculty and students, attracting international and national academic partners and attracting international and national industry partners.”
Prof. Rim-Rukeh gave a long list of his achievements to include but not limited to the following, “established new 21 academic programmes, established three new Colleges, provided sufficient teaching and learning facilities, introduced 26 professional academic programmes, accreditation of academic programmes, provided research laboratory equipments.
“National Income Salaries and Wages Commission (NISWC) position on FUPRE Establishment Act 2017, Patents, Grants, Fellowship, Innovation, Successful appointment of my successor “, among many others.
While thanking God for the opportunity to serve and complete his tenure, Prof. Rim-Rukeh expressed his appreciation to the 4th, 5th and 6th Governing Councils led by Prof. Shehu Abdullah Zuru, Prof. Anthony Gozie Anwuka and Engr. Bello G. Issa respectively.
He also commended the management team he worked with, adding, “I had the opportunity of working with purpose driven management team. I cannot thank you enough for the exemplary demonstration of patriotism and loyalty. My appreciation also goes to my predecessor, Prof. Akii A. O. Ibhadode who even out of office was still providing advice “
He was also full of appreciation to students and staff of the University for their support throughout his five years single tenure, adding, “I appreciate our students for their good and orderly conduct during this period. There was not a single incident of students unrest in the University in the last five years.”
Prof. Rim-Rukeh commended government agencies, private organizations and traditional rulers that partnered with the University during his tenure, adding, “my appreciation goes to HRM Emmanuel Sideso Abe 1, Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, HRM Felix Mujakperuo, Orhue 1, Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, HRM Mike Omeru, Ogurime rime, Ukori 1, Ovie of Agbon Kingdom, HRM Monday Obukohwo Whiskey, Udurhie 1, Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom and several other traditional rulers who worked with me for the positive actualization of the University’s vision”
