Ughelli Vigilante Group, popularly called “Ughelli Bakasi,” in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, has sent a 24 years old man, Mr. Igho Kingsley, to his early grave over a missing laptop.

According to the Igho family of Ethiope East Local Government Area, the incident happened on Monday 9th June, 2014.

Spokesman of the Family and elder brother to the deceased, Mr. Paul Igho has cried out for justice over the alleged killing of their son, Mr. Igho Kingsley in Ughelli by the Ughelli Security outfit last two weeks.

Mr. Igho who spoke to our reporter said trouble started when the deceased boss, Mr. Abido Oghenekaro, who is also a builder, called the deceased on Monday 9th June by 5am and offered him a building job at Arumala Street in Ughelli.

Mr. Igho said; “When my brother got there, he saw two other young men who were also working with him, being beaten by members of the Ughelli security outfit.

“After a while they took them to their office at Ekuigbo where they continued beating them, saying there is a missing laptop belonging to a business centre operator in Arumala Street two months ago, where they did a job. One of the Bakassi members, Oshasha Ediri with his team alongside the contractor, Abido insisted that the three boys tell them where the missing laptop was,” he added.

He said while the beating was going on, the family of one of the boys came to bail him out, while the other two were taken to the Ughelli Police Station in the evening and thrown into the police cell in spite of their condition.

The spokesman of the Igho family added that when the remaining two boys case became serious in the night the police rushed them to the Central Hospital, Ughelli where Igho Kingsley was referred to UBTH or DELSUTH because he was half dead.

He said the family decided to take the boy to Ufor Hospital in Ughelli to stabilize him and to source for money for his transfer to Oghara, adding that he finally died in Ufor after struggling for life from on the 9th to 14th of June.

“We want justice to be done because many are languishing in hospitals as a result of the unlawful detention, harassment and beatings of the security outfit in Ughelli. They have become law unto themselves,” he pleaded.

Efforts to speak with the leader of the security organization were not successful as at the time of filing this report.

It was however gather from  a police source that the contractor, Mr. Abido Oghenekaro and member of the security organization who were first invited by the contractor, Mr. Oshasha Ediri have been arrested by the police and taken to Asaba for more investigation into the matter.

The Police Public Relation Officer, Mrs. Celestina Kalu, told our reporter on phone that the matter is still under investigation, stressing  that the matter would not be allowed to be swept under the carpet.
