The much awaited maiden edition of NUJ DELTA/PRINCE NED NWOKO TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP 2017 , gets under way today at Ned Nwoke Tourist Resort, Idmuje-Ugboko, Aniocha South Local Government council area of delta state. 

The Tennis championship, a pet project of Comrade Michael Ikeogwu led state council, is one of the programme lined up by the current leadership of the union to engage stakeholders within and outside the state.

According to the statement issued by Comrade Etu Moses and Comrade Patrick Uzoyi-Peters Chairman and Secretary NUJ Delta State Council Sports Committee, respectively,  the ideals of the championship amongst other thing is to revive the game of Tennis in the state.

“It will also serve as a medium to reward and immortalise legendary Duke Nduka Odizor one of the country best ever Tennis players from the country.

“Duke Odizor desires to return home and help to make the championship an annual event that will be rated soon, through partnership with NUJ

“The star prize is the Duke Nduka Odizor trophy and cash prize, the second is the Prince Ned Nwoko trophy for the second place with cash prize also and the third place trophy called NUJ Delta trophy and also with cash prize,” the statement reads.

According to the statement the championship commenced 9am on Saturday, adding that three tennis clubs from Asaba and Warri, will compete for laurels at the championship aimed at bringing the NUJ Delta closers to the people and promote a man who has distinguished himself as an astute leader.
